Known by its decadent striped awning, Caffe Gelato is a marvelous Newark hang out. “Our front porch is our trademark with its striped awning, and now it’s about to get better,” says owner Ryan German. “We recently made our deck bigger by 30 square feet, allowing for two extra tables. Now we can seat 16 people.”
If you have your heart set on sitting outside, watching the hustle and bustle of Main Street, and taking in the fresh air and entertainment, it is a good idea to call ahead for reservations.
Every summer, the heat moves in and so do the soothing sounds of string music. “Every Friday and Saturday night, from 6:30 – 8:30 during the summer we offer a classic violinist on our outside deck who plays soft, entrancing music,” adds German. On Tuesday nights the restaurant offers half-priced wine by the bottle. On Wednesday nights it offers a buy-one special entree and get one free. “Our atmosphere is almost reminiscent of being in Europe,” says German.
Flower boxes and hanging baskets adorn the front porch making it a wonderful place to take time to catch up with friends. Dinner is not served on Sunday, but there is a Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. -3 p.m. “Many people tend to go into the city of Wilmington for a marvelous time. Give Newark a try. You’ll love it,” promises German.
